"What do you know about ghosts, Mrs. Albritton?"
Mrs. Albritton was hunched over the fruit cart, poking the apricots with her index finger. "Are these ripe, Simon? Feel these and tell me if they're ripe."
Simon reached over and obligingly felt her apricots. "Put them in the bag with the bananas," he instructed. "They'll be perfect by lunch tomorrow."
"You're so good with fruit, Simon." She turned to one of the clerks stocking a nearby shelf and leaned in, as if sharing a secret. "He's so good with fruit."
The clerk smiled and said, "You're lucky to have him."

And Mrs. Albritton beamed.
Bananas expel ethylene, which helps ripen other fruit.

EDIT: WHY DOES EVERYONE THINK SHE'S A COUGAR.

The italicization of the last line makes it seem incredibly foreboding, though of what I cannot imagine.

... I read it as cougarville, too.

Why? Because apricots are small, fuzzy fruit that vaguely resemble the shape of a woman's most intimate parts and she's fingering one. Just saying.

I totally didn't read her as a cougar. And now I'm wondering what the hell is wrong with everyone else.

She seems more like some cheery old grandma lady who HAS to tell strangers about things.

Also, this feels like it could make for a commercial. xD

That first line threw me off. I love it.

On topic, that is.
On topic.

I'd have trouble getting it more off topic.

Good. It's fun this way.

And if it's any consolation, I read it a few times and still can't picture her as a cougar. I see a little old lady with a rickety voice.

Thanks!
It was intentionally going to be more offtopic, but I liked it better like this.

I wish I hadn't read that the way I just read that.
