"Granddad got his foot caught in an escalator," Dad said. "The hospital called and said he was trying to shoot a music video. Do you know anything about this?"
Monty stuffed a glob of caramel popcorn into her mouth and dove under the blanket, which is the closest she could get to completely disappearing. Dads are a lot like the Tyrannosaurus Rex; if it isn't talking or moving, they generally lose interest.
"Monty," said Dad sternly. "Kid, are you listening to me?"
Don't make any sudden movements... She crunched a particularly caramel-y piece of popcorn and flinched. Sensing the movement, Dad tore the blanket off of her head.
She shrieked like a banshee and ran to the garage.
"It was his idea!" she bawled as she climbed spider-monkey style up the Christmas storage boxes and piles of old pool noodles. "He saw it on YouTube!"
That's when she saw the criminal.
